Meet the Committee

general committee

President -

Harry KingsLey-Smith

Say hi to Harry! He’s your number one man for all things Opera this year. He’s the big wig looking after the committee this year to keep everything running smoothly for you. A veteran of everything back stage, he’s also taken his hand at being up front and centre in cast, so no matter what you want to join in Opera, Harry will be able to show you how to get fully stuck in with the Opera family, so any questions, he’s always around to answer!

Treasurer - Dan Faehndrich

As if being ICSM President last year was not enough, Dan is furthering his endless conquest for validation as our treasurer this year. On the days when he is not being the most functional yet dysfunctional human being ever, his pass-times include running through the fields of 'Yeet' and being a probable communist. In short, Dan is a special sunflower who we are for some reason trusting with our finances. However, never fear, we are sure if we do make a loss this year he will just blame it on Brexit anyway. Oh, and did we mention he was ICSM President???

Secretary - Rachel Ruck

Meet Rachel, Light Opera’s brand-spanking new secretary! She’s adding a youthful glow to this year’s exec team, and committed to a well-organised-and-colour-coded-for-the-ages-Opera, you can trust that Opera is in safe hands with her! I mean, she loves room booking, calendars and the arts so much that she’s decided to take on the role for two societies this year!

Publicity - Frankii Watson

Say hello to Frankii, Light Opera’s publicity officer. She is the one who has spammed your social media feeds into oblivion, making sure you join the best society at ICSM! She’s decided to take a break from teaching us all to tap dance and has instead developed her skill at Photoshop, being the one responsible for this years show posters. However, she’s more than just her committee position; she’s a pretty great friend to have in your corner. So watch out for the blonde inevitably doing the splits on stage!

Alumni Officer -

Auriol Harford

As one of our Alumni Officers, Auriol is responsible for keeping in touch with everyone who made the fantastic decision of joining Opera while they were a part of ICSM. As someone who has been at ICSM before some of you were doing your GCSEs she's also a great person to go to for advice, and for stories about what ICSM was like before the introduction of technology.

Alumni Officer - Thom Shaw

Thom supplies the youth and beauty to this year's Alumni team, making sure our fabulous doctors are kept up to date with all the Opera goings-on, despite leaving ICSM for sensible things. Want to meet all the previous glitterati of the Opera world? The Alumni team will be there to help introduce you to the extended family that is Opera, for everything from learning classic dance moves to even having sensible discussions about careers (whilst singing Disney medleys obviously... ) And, as an ex-President with a fierce box-step, Thom is always there to whip you into shape on the dance floor or offer any advice you could need.

Minister of Entertainment -

Luke Fessey

Fessey is light opera’s resident BFGG (big friendly ginger giant) and this year he is committed to giving you the best possible socials, as the wise old owl of your resident team fun. But don’t mistake this 5th year for a man to sit back, he’ll be there to make sure you’re always in the bin and having the time of your life (especially if you give him fennel or nuts).

Minister of Entertainment - Milly Orr Ewing

As one of our three MOE (Ministry of Entertainment) Milly will be responsible for organising your tours, socials, end of year dinner, and other assorted fun. She had an outstanding fresher year, attending every social event and still managing to do well in exams: she is an excellent example of how to do first year right.

Minister of Entertainment -

Sebastian Mitchell

This year Seb has been promoted from the position of ‘a fresher’ to the mighty MOE. he is now in charge of organising your fun, and he will ensure your social lives are the best and busiest in ICSM. Seb is a permanent resident of the bin so you may as well just join him there!

Big chill co-ordinator -

dominic lagrue

Light opera will be enriched this year by having Dom as a Big Chill coordinator. A last year club member at this position will ensure that we can all get together and enjoy our company in a relaxed and comfortable environment. He will be happy to help you with anything as well as cheering you up or making sure everyone is involved, the perfect combo for the ideal coordinator!

Big chill co-ordinator -

Elena torrell pedreira

Elena is half of the duo responsible for organising Light Opera's famous Big Chills. She's an endless pit of wonderful ideas for bringing the fun and the chill. Talk to her if you want to perform at one of these laid-back open mic nights! Get ready to see her cartwheel into the splits like the boss she is!

uh revue co-ordinator -

jack hall

Jack's distinct Northern Irish accent and manner might initially come across as hella sarcastic (apparently!?) but as soon as you've had a conversation with the fella, he's top chat. To earn top points with him, mention either alcohol, his new-found physique or his trip to Nepal. If you end up under his wing - rejoice! He'll try to take care of you as much as he can to hide the fact that he can barely take care of himself.

uh revue co-ordinator -

zoha imam

As a UH Revue Coordinator, Zoha will be working to bring home another win for ICSM at the next meeting of the best and brightest comedy minds of the United Hospitals Comedy Revue. If you’re interested in getting involved, keep an eye out for promo in the Spring Term and revise your funny bone anatomy!

Main Committee

main director -

Jordan mcdonagh

Jordan is taking a step away from the limelight this year to bless the cast with his comedic wit from a directorial point of view. Only time will tell whether weeks of being the boss will subdue his longing for attention; otherwise expect some restructuring here and there, and before you know it ICSM Light Opera will be proud to present Jordan playing Jordan in JORDAN: the musical.

main choreographer -

tahir kanani

After his scarily authentic drag performance as Lola in 24’s Kinky Boots last year, we’re excited for TK to bring his sass, energy, and excitement to this year’s dances. Look out for him at Fresher’s, no doubt causing a commotion under a cloud of Juul smoke on the dance-floor.

main director -

hafsa jalisi

Hafsa Jalisi is a hugely talented member of Opera. She is fantastic singer, dancer and actor, and this, alongside her previous roles as MD for 24 and being a stellar musician in her own right will make her an amazing  Director, as she bridges the gap between cast and band perfectly.

main producer -

benji watkins

As a producer, it’s Benji’s job to make sure that everything and everyone is organised so that the cast have cool merchandise and even cooler programmes to flaunt. You’ll find him tap-tap-tapping away on his computer, ready to jump in at any second to utilise his climbing skills and fix any technical faults.

main musical director -

james nesbitt

Playing in the talented Opera Band was not enough of a challenge for James. He has now bravely (or foolishly) decided to teach the cast harmonies as he dives headfirst into the bountiful ocean of fun that is Opera Cast Rehearsal (and the post rehearsal social of course)

main producer -

Sanjana Murali

As a producer it's Sanj's role to do all the fiddly bits behind the scenes to make sure rooms are booked to rehearse in, there's food on show night and to actually buy all the librettos. You'll meet her at auditions and then see her pop up from the shadows to help fix things if (as) they go wrong!

main backstage manager -

josh harriott

Josh has been doing backstage for quite a few years now. No one quite knows why. Maybe it’s because no one can know of his angelic singing, or maybe it’s because sunlight is deathly poisonous to Josh. All we know is Josh is responsible for making backstage great again and poking people to drill things with minimal loss of limbs.

main technical director -

ka jun cheng

The role of tech is simple. If its turned off, turn it on. If its not plugged in, plug it in. If its on fire, cry. It’s Ka Jun’s job, not to do these things, but to tell other people to do them and luckily, this can be done from the safety of 568 with a pint in hand.

main costumes mistress -

Hannah lewis

As one of the costumes mistresses this year, Hannah is the the voice of reason in the costumes planning and will make sure that you all have something wonderful to wear on stage! Having been both Costumes mistress and Producer before, Hannah seems to know everything about how Opera runs. (She also makes the most amazing spreadsheets if you ever find yourself in need of help!)

main costumes mistress -

maddy fisher

If you’re looking for someone to hem a skirt, Maddy is your girl (except she probably won’t thank you for that task). She can be easily spotted as the lady with the hourglass figure sporting home-made 1950s dresses in badazzling patterns. Unlike many of us who haven't touched a sewing machine since year 7, Maddy can actually sew! If you want to learn or are already a pro, get in touch to join our costume making team.

24 Committee

main art director -

nina timlin

No longer fresher Nina is one half of this year’s main art directing dream team. Nina’s role  involves creating set pieces and props, vital to the success of Operas astounding productions. Her creativity knows no bounds and it is well known that some of her best work has taken place following some eventful opera socials. Anyone who joins opera will be thoroughly entertained by Nina’s night time antics and her day time charm and charisma.

main art director -

pritesh patel

Allow me to introduce Pritesh

Who goes by Patricia on a night out

Although he’s quite new to opera

You’ll meet him soon, no doubt

As this year’s main art director

He’s going to make a big splash

So everyone better watch out

For his well-groomed beard and moustache

24 committee

24 director -

yasmin hazemi

this will be yas' 3rd time directing opera. She was one third of the MOE last year and has also been in the cast of a ridiculous number of shows. This all means that you are in the safest possible hands for 24: she'll look after you all, make sure that it will be insanely fun, and an incredible show too!

And here is a haiku to introduce you to the wonderful Yas:

Yas is so lovely,

She has the fluffiest dog,

And gives the best hugs.

24 musical director -

milly orr ewing

milly has decided to take a break from the stage to form one third of this year's 24 creative team! with the voice of an angel and a liver of steel, she is ready to put on the most incredible 24 she can... whilst not remembering a single minute of it!

24 choreographer -

elena torell pedreira

Meet Elena: so drunk she can’t even remember! After breaking her ankle playing stuck in the mud, Elena couldn’t be more ready to choreograph 24. Luckily for the rest of 24 committee Elena is as good at keeping secrets as she is at dancing so there’s no way you’ll get out of her what 24 will be this year.

24 producer -

michael anyanechi

After suffering a shocking defeat in the ring in last year’s 24, attempting to avoid further humiliation Michael has hung up the gloves and decided to watch from the sidelines as a part of this year’s 24 team.  Michael can moan about his man flu for hours on end and will happily speak his mind if he disagrees with anything in the slightest. this hulk like man is committed to organising the best and most fun 24 to date.

24 producer -

sebastian mitchell

Hi, I'm Seb one half of the 24 producing team. Here to help make sure 24 is fun and amazing for everyone involved. I mean putting on a musical in a day? what could go wrong? We'll be there every step of the way from hiding every single detail of the musical from you lot to sinking into the booze-filled haze of a job well done. 24. Do it.

24 backstage manager -

amy dawson-kavanagh

Amy will start her first Opera Committee role this year - as Backstage Manager. Her main job is to hit things with hammers and use power tools, while sleep deprived. As well as this she’ll be trying to stop Josh from injuring himself, and beating cast whenever they do something stupid.

24 backstage manager -

josh harriott

josh has decided for the second year running that he must be the ruler of all things backstage by taking on two committee positions. he is also a veteran of 24, having been on the committee for the past 3 years. maybe he likes the job, or maybe he just can't stand not knowing what the show is!

24 technical director -

ka jun cheng

ka jun has taken on this year's role of 24 technical director, a role that requires a lot of skill and determination. good thing ka jun has both of these in abundance, as little does he know that he's sealed his fate as our tech director for the next 4 years!

24 technical director -

noah blackmore

This is Noah’s first run at being a master of tech, which is a world away from his usual creature comforts – playing in a pit with a guitar missing two strings. Noah is responsible for 24’s tech this year… so you can thank him for all the pretty lights and the loud wub wubs. But Noah’s most important job is babysitting Ka Jun and stopping him from blowing everything up. We can’t give Shiras more excuses to evacuate the union, now, can we?

24 costumes mistress -

maddy fisher

maddy is opera's answer to Cinderella: she's blonde, beautiful, hardworking and an absolute master with a needle and thread.  with the expectations of last year's thigh high boots on her shoulders, we cannot wait to see what she has in store for us this year!

24 art director -

tash cowan

Having crossed over from MTSoc this year, Tash is bringing with her a whole lotta energy, and some actual factual engineering expertise!  She was sold on the positions after her baptism-by-fire that was last year’s 24, and she can’t wait to paint the town (or at least, UCH) red! And if being  the sober social sec of Lacrosse for a year wasn’t preparation, we don’t know what is!

Jabsie

Jabsie, First of his Name.

Ruler of Reynolds and the ICSM lands.

Commander of the Basses and Tenors, Lord of the Altos and Sopranos.

The Protector of Light Opera
